We are Made of Stories!
My Dad has always said that people love stories.... and it's true, I believe it's how we all connect & communicate. It's how we learn, how we live. Chapters and seasons of our lives are vast; some are about love, some sadness, forgiveness, excitement, growth, understanding, listening, or speaking up. It can often be choosing to leave something behind or being steadfast even when you are afraid.
We can be guided by so many different emotions …fear, courage, adventure, success, failures, happiness, friendship, heartbreak, confusion, maybe anger or uncertainty.
At the end of the day, hopefully each chapter offers us something of value that builds our character, increases our self-acceptance (and our humility). By the grace of God we keep turning the pages of our life with each sunrise.
Each page, just like each new day is a gift . . .
All the best movies are made around “A hero's journey” aren't they? I recently watched WISH MAN, the story of the man who created The Make a Wish Foundation. In the movie Frank Shankowitz has a life altering experience by a young man named Michael who has a terminal illness and his dream is to meet a motorcycle police officer like in the movie CHIPS. Frank is just such a cop, and has recently gone through a traumatic accident himself and is healing. This experience changes Frank's life profoundly he says, “meeting Michael brought me a belief that we all can be a hero to someone. I never knew I could make a difference. Now, I've seen it. A simple act of kindness can change a life.” He goes on to share “I've been a fighter all my life. I'm tired of not knowing what I was fighting for. I've been on my own my whole life and now I've found something to fight for. Kids like Michael can tell their wish and we make it happen.”
The Make A Wish Foundation was born in 1980 and has changed thousands of lives ever since. Such a great movie. One of our favorites. You can find it on Amazon Prime if you are looking for a suggestion next time you have a hankering for a good flick! No doubt, I always shed a tear (ok ok a lot of tears every time) and go to bed with a big fat warm heart and deep sigh for all the goodness in the world.
This movie brought a little more spunk this week to two of my consistent questions in my nightly journal:
1. Who made a difference in my life today?
2. Did I make a difference in someone's life today?
The key component here is TODAY! Give it a try next time you journal and if the answer to both is no, then simply turn the page to tomorrow.
Each page, just like each new day is a gift.
